The Newport News Bar promotes and encourages membership in the Association through recruiting, retaining, and renewing membership of new and existing members. We strive to implement policies, procedures, and initiatives to assure a growing and thriving membership organization. We also actively promote and encourage membership participation in Bar activities.

There are three classes of membership:  Active, Honorary, and Associate.

Active membership is open to all persons licensed by and in good standing with the Virginia State Bar,  and maintaining an office or residence in Newport News.

Honorary membership is an option for those with an inactive status of his or her license with the Virginia State Bar and who have been a member of the Newport News Bar Association for at least eight years; however, please be advised that Honorary members are not voting members.  No payment is necessary to become or remain an Honorary member of the Association.

Associate membership is available to all persons licensed by and in good standing with the Virginia State Bar, but ineligible to be an active member due to the lack of an office or residence located in Newport News.  Any person who is licensed to practice law in any state, territory, or possession of the United States and who is also a member of the Armed Forces assigned to legal duties in the Cities of Newport News, Hampton, Poquoson, or Williamsburg, or the Counties of James City or York shall also be eligible for associate membership.
